Prime minister indicates RAAF is ready to perform aid drops to displaced people as US jets strike Isis militants
9 August 2014 - Tony Abbott has offered Australia’s assistance to the US for humanitarian air drops over northern Iraq after the US military launched air strikes against Islamic State (Isis) forces.
The prime minister said he had spoken with US officials about the “potential humanitarian disaster” and that he had been asked to consider participation in humanitarian air drops.
“President Obama has already said that it has the potential to become a genocide and that’s why it’s important for Australia to join with our international partners in doing what we can to render humanitarian assistance,” Abbott said. read more>>>
9 August 2014 - A cargo plane has left RAF Brize Norton carrying British humanitarian aid to Iraq, the BBC understands.The aid drops are part of an £8m package of aid announced by the UK government.
Members of the Yazidi community trapped on a mountainside in northern Iraq will be among those to receive assistance.
It comes as the government's emergency Cobra committee meets to discuss the response to the conflict in Iraq.

Aug. 08 2014 - Foreign Minister John Baird is stopping short of pledging new military or humanitarian aid to Iraq, saying Canada will monitor the situation in the country as the United States began air strikes and supply drops to help civilians fleeing Sunni extremists.
In a statement Friday, Mr. Baird said Canada’s ambassador to Iraq, presently based in Jordan, is “working to determine how best to support the Iraqi people.” In the meantime, the federal government says it has not received a request for military help. read more>>>
The Iraqi Military has to come back reorganized, and fast, and help the Kurds, which is helping their own throughout the country, who have a long cause they're fighting for and the motivation to try and stop another attempt at controlling them and their resources. The Turks, despite their long suppression of the Kurds, need to step in and help as well!!
