September 08, 2013 - When he was just 27 years old, helped prosecute Nazi leaders in the Nuremburg war crimes trial after World War II. In the years since, the Harvard-educated lawyer has continued to focus on issues of international criminal justice.
As he considers the possibility the U.S. might launch strikes on Syria, Ferencz raises the idea of using the International Criminal Court to try Syrian President Bashar Assad for the alleged use of chemical weapons.
But, he tells NPR's Rachel Martin, "the United States has been opposed, unfortunately ... to using that court because we value our sovereignty and we want to decide for ourselves when we go to war and when we don't. And I agree!! Enough is long ago enough, accusations are made and often with proof to back up same, yet few call on the World body to indict and hold trials on, in person or in absentia making them and any who do any type of business with them pariah's and persona's non-grata on this planet!
Not just on charges made but by actual suspected actions, with collected indisputable proof, that break long established International Laws especially as to human rights and wars, until war itself is made illegal, and that won't happen, standards of war crimes have been established, break them and be charged and tried for doing so in the name of civility within the human race! Or wipe all the International Laws off the books if the World continues to ignore the violations of! From the top government officials to the top military officials down through the ranks of the jr officers under who's final command orders are given.
In recent times plenty of charges were leveled at Saddam Hussein of Iraq, many had the proof, of decades, to back those up, yet the first president bush never demanded the World indict him, nor did his son the second president bush while he and his administration, many being well connected to his fathers administration and our government for years, added to the known charges with an ever changing and pushing a new batch of pure lies that caused the abandoning on why we sent our military into that region after 9/11 so quickly to invade and destroy Iraq in another long occupation.
Saddam was captured but not put on the World court for his crimes against humanity, but was tried and hung in Iraq. So as not to have long suspected, some known, proof and intelligence come forward about the American dealings with him, and whom with, from helping to install him in power forward to his end including the military weapons of all varieties we filled his needs and wants for!!
